Our Values

Celtic_triskelion_design_edited.png

Our values are represented by this Celtic symbol which, along with our Hummingbird logo are in the Grenadian colours.

Yellow symbolizes wisdom and the warmth of the sun.

Red represents unity, courage, and vitality.

Green represents vegetation, agriculture, and the island's natural beauty.

The three main components of our ethos

The green central triskelion shape represents the three strands of the retreat house which are a therapeutic space, a creative space and a spiritual space. These weave into one and the white triangle at the centre of this shape represents that which continues to grow and emerge as these three strands flow together.

Our holistic approach

The left yellow trefoil represents body, mind and spirit - recognising we are physical, psychological and spiritual beings and so we value an holistic approach to wellbeing and personal growth. We value the uniqueness and inherent worth of each person and celebrate the diversity of all people. This is reflected in our genuine hospitality and an inclusive, friendly welcome to all our guests.

Our three main aims

The right yellow trefoil shape represents our three aims of providing hope, promoting wellbeing and pursuing wholeness. We recognise that we are all on a journey of personal development and as staff we seek to learn and to grow as well as supporting our guests in their own journeys of growth. We are keen to develop and improve what we offer and so we systematically collect feedback from our guests in order to continue to improve how we reach these aims and fulfil our purpose as a retreat house.

As a non-profit business, the retreat house supports community projects so that these aims are expressed in the local community and island wide. We support projects under the headings of Health, Opportunities, Peace and the Environment.

Our rhythm of life

The lower yellow trefoil represents our rhythm of life which is foundational to all we do. It is based on the rhythm of life of Contemplative Fire, whose values and vision shape the spirituality of the retreat house. This shape represents a balance in life of contemplative stillness, creative learning and compassionate action. Another way of seeing this is a balance of being, knowing and doing.

This shape can also represent the three aspects of the Trinity in the Christian tradition and the central space is the mystery of the Divine and the place of the unknown. We welcome people of all cultures, backgrounds, spiritual journeys, faiths and worldviews, recognising that contemplative silence is a language that we can all share and that we can learn from each other.

 Our interrelatedness

The outer weaving reminds us that we live in the context of three main relationships - the red thread represents other people, the green thread represents the Earth and the gold thread represents the Divine. We seek to be mindful of our interconnection with others and be in good relationship with all people, to honour and respect the Earth and to be, as the Grenadian national anthem says, 'ever conscious of God.'
